Two performances from the 2024/25 Madison Opera season will be presented on consecutive Saturdays at noon this June on WPR Music. The performances were recorded at Madison’s Overture Center by Audio For The Arts, and both broadcasts include cast interviews with WPR’s “Afternoon Classics” host Lori Skelton.
June 14 at noon: The famous “Figaro, Figaro, Figaro!” is Rossini’s “Barber of Seville.” The high-energy 1816 comedy combines a few mistaken identities, more than a few rapid-fire arias, and everyone’s plans going askew, all in the name of happily-ever-after romance. The November, 2024 production stars Keely Futterer, Benjamin Taylor, David Walton, Levi Hernandez, Alex Taylor, Hailey Cohen, Lifan Deng, and Ryan Nash, with the Madison Opera Chorus, conducted by John DeMain.
June 21 at noon: The story of the womanizing Don Juan has been told for centuries, but Mozart’s 1787 setting of “Don Giovanni” delves into the consequences of the libertine’s actions, in some of opera’s most colorful and memorable music. The May, 2025 production stars Charles H. Eaton, Jeremiah Sanders, Katerina Burton, Emily Fons, Sachie Ueshima, Andrew Stenson, Ashraf Sewailam, and Lifan Deng, with the Madison Opera Chorus, conducted by John DeMain.
