The Red Cliff tribe in northern Wisconsin is getting ready to break ground on a roughly $3 million housing project this summer.
Howard Bresette is the project manager for the Red Cliff housing project called New Hope. Bresette said New Hope will offer 24 apartments to those in need of low-income housing.
“It’s primarily set up for people of disability that are maybe in transition to having homes — the homeless,” he said.

Bresette said New Hope may also serve veterans and people recovering from addiction. He said the housing project is needed because some tribal members are struggling to find work.
“People here just tend to stay here because of the family ties — whatever keeps the people here,” he said. “But, one thing there isn’t for them is some place to find employment.”
Bresette said the tribe is finalizing construction plans and is set to break ground in July. He said they hope they can begin taking applications next spring.
