The charango from Bolivia is thought to have originated roughly 300 years ago in Potosi, commonly designated as the “silver city.” It was crafted over time by South American Indian musicians in the image of guitars or mandolins of the Spanish conquistadors who beginning in 1492, would for over three centuries exercise control over more than half of South America.
