Whether you’re heading down the road to a gathering, or it’s your turn to host, WPR has special programs to keep you company on Thanksgiving, and through the long weekend.
Get your annual dose of turkey and sides advice on WPR News at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, with the broadcast of this year’s “Turkey Confidential” from “The Splendid Table.” Francis Lam and his guests will take calls and come to the rescue of Thanksgiving cooks, kitchen helpers, and dinner guests during the biggest cooking day of the year.
Also on Thursday, WPR Music’s “Morning Classics” Stephanie Elkins will feature selections from this year’s Wisconsin School Music Association Honors Concerts, along with other classical music for your Thanksgiving morning. Then at 10 a.m. you’ll hear “Every Good Thing,” with classical music fans from all around the country taking time to give thanks with an hour of stories and music to celebrate Thanksgiving. Tune in at 1 p.m. for a new special, “Songs of Thanks.” The vocal ensemble Cantus will weave together stories and songs celebrating gratitude and community.
Then round out your holiday weekend with more WPR Music, including “The Road to Higher Ground” with Jonathan Øverby Saturday evening at 5 p.m. That night’s program celebrates in the spirit of Thanksgiving, with world music from lands near and far, and features Sweet Honey in the Rock, Baaba Mal, Los Lobos and more. And to welcome December on Sunday, you can wind down and get ready for the week with “Simply Folk” at 5 p.m.
Whatever the day and weekend include, we hope it can include WPR, too.
