Bullying, the pressures of social media and social isolation pose a threat to the security, confidence and self-esteem of both youth and adults in our region. In Marathon County, more than 43 percent of high school students who took the most recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey said they believe bullying at school is a significant problem. What’s more, 27 percent of students said they do not feel they have a teacher or adult they can confide in if they have a problem. Shereen Siewert welcomes Wausau School Board Vice President Pat McKee and Peaceful Solutions Counseling co-founder Lee Shipway for a frank discussion on bullying in local schools, the role of educators in mitigating the issue and coping mechanisms to help children and parents deal with the problem.
