Russ Feingold, who announced this week that he’ll be running for his old Senate seat in 2016, faces a different political landscape than he did in 2010 when he lost to current Sen. Ron Johnson.
Marquette Law School pollster Charles Franklin said Ron Johnson has spent his term criticizing government spending and health reform. Russ Feingold is known for campaign finance reform.
“And he successfully passed that only to see much of it struck down by the court,” said Franklin. “So it’s an interesting question: Where will Feingold go with his issue focus going into 2016?”

Both candidates are likely to spend heavily, said University of Wisconsin-Madison political science and journalism professor Michael Wagner.
“This is a race that is likely to break Wisconsin U.S. Senate records in terms of fundraising — both in terms of candidates and in terms of super PACs that will fund a lot of television advertising,” said Wagner.
The closely watched Senate race is expected to be on of the most competitive next year, according to Cook Political Report.
