Kavanaugh trial to begin next month

One of Governor Walker’sformer employees in Milwaukee County is headed to trial next month on charges that the manembezzled about 42-thousand dollars from veterans groups. Defense lawyers promise to keep fighting the charges.

When Governor Walker was still Milwaukee County executive, he appointed Kevin Kavanaugh to the county Veterans Service Commission. Milwaukee County prosecutors say as treasurer of the Military Order of the Purple Heart,Kavanaugh and another former Walker associate stole donations intended to help military veterans and their families.

Kavanaugh has pleaded not guilty to felony theft and fraud charges. following a final pre-trial hearing Friday, Kavanaugh’s lawyerChris Hartley says bank records will show that Kavanaugh distributed money to needy veterans.”Many people will testify he gave cash to a lot of vets,” he says.

Kavanaugh’s trial is scheduled to start October 8th. He’s one of several former Walker aides charged in a John Doe investigation. Defense lawyers succeeded in delaying most of the trials until after Walker’s recall election victory in June.
