Heat advisories for parts of western Wisconsin

The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories beginning Wednesday (6/27) afternoon for parts of western Wisconsin.

Temperatures are predicted to hover in the mid-90s in parts of western and southern Wisconsin. The humidity could cause the heat index to hit 105.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Adams says southerly winds are bringing up moist, warmer air: “It certainly is typical for us to get high humidity this time of year. It all depends if we have nice … flow across the region. Certainly we get cold fronts that come through that bring cooler air, that’ll get us down to more tolerable levels, but it’s not unusual to have high indices in June.”

Adams says Wisconsin is on its way to having more days above 90 degrees than usual.

To prepare for the hot weather, Sauk and Columbia Counties have officially opened their cooling centers.

Officials urge people to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade if they have to be outside. Young children and the elderly should be extra careful in the heat.
