The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa declared a state of emergency on Sunday following damage from severe storms on Saturday.

The tribe said in a news release that straight line winds knocked down trees and power lines across the Red Cliff reservation.

The National Weather Service office in Duluth received a report of wind gusts in the area exceeding 60 miles per hour and trees blown down on Blueberry Road, Little Sand Bay Road and Big Sand Bay Road.

The damage has made many roads impassable and travel hazardous.

The Red Cliff Tribal Council is asking people not to visit the reservation and that tribal members restrict their travel as much as possible.

Road and utility crews are working to clear roads and restore power.
