Anna Steinhoff, Craig Trompeter, and Russell Wagner of Second City Musick are a consort of viols based in Chicago who perform 16th-18th century music for the modern listener.
They begin with music by Jacob Olbrecht (1457-1505) and Alexander Gricola (1445-1506), followed by pieces by Josquin des Prez (1455-1521), William Byrd (1540-1623) and Thomas Lupo (1571-1627). In the second half of the program, they play three fantasies by Henry Purcell (1659-1595) followed by music from Heinrich Isaac (1450-1517). They end with a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).
