Nigerian music during in the early 1960s was complex, diverse and forward-thinking with musicians exploring their country’s own musical lineage through styles such as Juju and Apala while adapting, absorbing, and recalibrating other influences like palm wine, Ghanaian Highlife, Caribbean Calypso, Cuban Mambo and, the Western textured dance music – R&B.
