Gov. Scott Walker spent part of Thursday morning opening the Wisconsin State Fair before leaving for a presidential candidate debate in Ohio, dodging journalists along the way.
While speaking at State Fair Park for the fair’s opening ceremonies, Walker made a brief reference to his presidential campaign.
“That wasn’t lost on me that Abe Lincoln was here in 1859, the year before he was elected president. But that’s a whole ‘nother story,” said Walker.

As his aides had warned reporters beforehand, Walker took no questions from the media after his remarks. Reporters who wanted to ask about Walker’s use of personal credit cards, the “John Doe 1” investigation and other topics could only shout at the governor as he walked straight for his vehicle, protected by heavy security.
Walker’s SUV left state fair park soon after for what reporters were told was a flight to Ohio for the evening’s GOP presidential candidate debate.
