A pair of liberal groups is planning an online vote to find the most popular Democratic candidate for governor in the crowded field of contenders ahead of the Aug. 14 primary.

Our Wisconsin Revolution and the Wisconsin Working Families Party have teamed up to create Wisconsin Choice, which has held a series of events with the Democratic candidates.

There are 16 registered candidates vying for the chance to take on Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November.

Wisconsin Choice is encouraging Wisconsin residents to vote online between April 16 and April 19 as it narrows the list of candidates based on those results. Subsequent rounds will be held in June and July with a “people’s champion” being named before the primary.

Unlike the Republican Party, the Democratic Party does not vote to endorse candidates before the primary.
