Wisconsinites opposed to cuts in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security made the rounds again Tuesday to the state’s Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill. A small group from Wisconsin Jobs Now and Citizen Action also met with the Milwaukee staff of Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl. Group spokesperson Robin Squire says the hope is that the soon-to-retire Senator will issue a stronger statement opposing cuts.
Kohl’s office says the Senator has not commented on the so-called fiscal cliff talks in the last few days. Last week, Kohl said that Congress should first act on areas of agreement, like preventing tax increases on the middle class and fixing the alternative minimum tax.
Wisconsin Jobs Now says Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson is misinformed, when he says that all federal programs should be on the table during the “fiscal cliff” negotiations. Johnson argues some cuts now, may head off greater financial problems later.
