A state lawmaker is among three people interested in running for mayor of Green Bay now that incumbent Jim Schmitt has announced he won’t seek reelection.

Democratic state Rep. Eric Genrich said he’s interested in running, along with Common Council President Tom DeWane and Brown County Board of Supervisors member Pat Evans.

Schmitt said on Tuesday he would leave office at the conclusion of his fourth term in 2019.

Genrich said that as mayor, he could have a more immediate impact on city policies than in his current minority role at the state level.

Evans said constituents and business owners have urged him to seek the Green Bay mayoral post after he ran for and lost the job in 2011.

DeWane said he’s already talking with his family about a possible mayoral bid.
