Wisconsin home sales were up by just more than 16 percent compared to the same time last March. The median price also rose to $149,000, a jump of 8.8 percent.

Michael Theo directs the Wisconsin Realtors Association. He said the numbers were boosted because of last year’s long, cold, snowy winter compared to this year’s weather.

“That’s important in Wisconsin because in a typical year we sell about 27 percent of all home sales happen in those spring months between March and May,” Theo said.

Anecdotally, Theo has heard pricier homes still take longer to sell.

“I think that’s something that’s changing. The same is true with the second home market.”

Besides the weather Theo said low interest rates, fewer foreclosures, and a rise in employment are shoring up the real estate market.
