Milwaukee officials considering settling a lawsuit accusing the police department of stopping minorities without probable cause say they want to know how much the city will have to pay before they make a decision.

Common council members who were going to vote on the $1.9 million proposed settlement Tuesday say the cost could be as much as $6 million. That’s because some money will be borrowed with interest and the city has to hire a consultant to monitor police practices for five years as part of the settlement.

The vote has not been rescheduled.
