News from 72: Ojibwe Chief’s descendants fight to regain land in Douglas County

In 1852 several Ojibwe chiefs paddled, walked and rode their way from northern Wisconsin to Washington D.C.Their mission was to avert war and save their homeland.That resulted in the Treaty of 1854.Ironically, half a century later the descendants of one of those chiefs were forced from their village on Wisconsin Point in Superior.Today, that same family is fighting to get their home back.As part of WPR’s News from 72 series, Mike Simonson has the Douglas County story about an effort to right an old wrong.
