Barrett Expresses Concern Over Possible Relocation Of Lincoln Hills Inmates

Milwaukee’s mayor has called the alleged abuse of juveniles at the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake schools “a fiasco,” but expressed concern regarding where in Milwaukee dozens of youth from the facility may potentially be relocated.

Some Milwaukee County leaders are hoping to bring youthful offenders at the troubled Corrections Department schools near Wausau back to the offenders’ home city of Milwaukee. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said he wants to be part of the discussion on where the juveniles would be placed.

“The Lincoln Hills fiasco is a manmade disaster, and I don’t want the ramifications of that to affect public safety in Milwaukee,” he said. “I’m very concerned about that.”

Barrett said he wants to make sure Milwaukee has adequate secure facilities and that the youth are not placed in group homes or neighborhoods. Barrett said he plans to meet with MIlwaukee County Chief Judge Maxine White and others in a few days.
