A group that advocates for victims of domestic violence says 43 people died in Wisconsin in connection with domestic violence incidents last year.
The annual report by End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin includes both homicide victims as well as suicides by perpetrators.
During a ceremony outside the state capitol Monday, the group’s executive Director Patti Seger said the idea of the report is to raise of awareness.

“Our hope is that in calling attention to the known risk factors, it will help law enforcement, advocates, health care professionals and concerned family members and friends and victims themselves better evaluate just how dangerous many domestic violence situations can be,” Seger said.
The report found that 57 percent of the victims were killed after they ended their relationship with a perpetrator or when they were taking steps to leave.
