Some University of Wisconsin-Green Bay business majors now have a chance to work for a national consulting firm that has relocated its headquarters to the city. The university and Initiative One signed an agreement Friday to work with interns and faculty.

The company is relocating to Green Bay from Scottsdale, Ariz. Founder and CEO Fred Johnson said he hopes to hire 10 to 15 paid interns each year, and they won’t be filing and stapling.

“We’re throwing them in the pool and expecting them to swim,” Johnson said.

Initiative One advises national companies like U.S. Steel and the Seattle Seahawks how to work with younger employees, so UWGB Chancellor Gary Miller said it’s a good fit.

“To actually work in that business to understand a real problem to try the skills they have, that is absolutely the best thing you can do to get them an opportunity for a great job,” Miller said.

If interns do well, company officials said they will most likely be offered a job.

UWGB faculty will also advise the interns and the company.
