US Labor Secretary Tom Perez Campaigns For Hillary Clinton In Wisconsin

Perez: Clinton Believes In Collective Bargaining, Higher Minimum Wage, Opposes Right-To-Work Laws

U.S. Labor Secretary Tom Perez campaigned for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton on Labor Day in Milwaukee.

Perez said one difference between presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump is that Clinton believes in collective bargaining.

“Donald Trump embraces the Scott Walker ethic of going after labor unions,” Perez said during his first stop at the city’s Laborfest to speak to union members. “Hillary Clinton understands we need to support Supreme Court justices that will understand the importance of collective bargaining in this country.”

Perez also said Clinton backs a higher minimum wage and opposes right-to-work laws critics say make it tougher for unions to recruit new members.

While speaking to Democratic campaign volunteers, Perez referred to Gov. Scott Walker when saying the former secretary of state understands what it means to be progressive.

“Wisconsin, as a state, understands that, though your governor does not,” Perez said.

The Wisconsin GOP said the Clinton campaign event was an attempt “to rally the base” after Clinton’s lead over Trump “diminished dramatically” in the latest Marquette University Law School poll of Wisconsin voters.

The GOP also said the Clinton-Trump match-up has become a conversation about honesty and trust, and voters are taking a closer look.
