Six Milwaukee Children Injured By Gunfire In Past Week

Mayor Urges Better Gun Safety At Home

By

Six children in Milwaukee have been wounded by gunfire during the past few days. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is urging gun owners to be take more precautions with their firearms. “If you have a gun, put it in a safe place, so young people are not exposed to it,” Barrett said. “It’s about as common sense as things come.”

Barrett says in one incident, a convicted felon who illegally possessed a handgun accidentally shot his seven year-old son. In the other case, five juveniles were wounded Tuesday night when a shotgun went off in a basement. Police say they are still investigating the matter. Mayor Barrett said he’s glad President Obama pledged to move ahead with attempts to reduce gun violence during the State of the Union speech.
