Aline Hazard recording at a show at a sorghum mill in Prairie du Chien
Aline W. Hazard (right), WHA Homemakers program director, visits a sorghum mill in Prairie du Chien for her on-the-spot reporting of Wisconsin industries. Many of Hazard’s radio shows, dating back to the 1930s and 1940s, are now being digitized and made available to the public. Courtesy of The Wisconsin Historical Society.

WHA, based at UW-Madison, is the oldest public radio station in the country. Recordings of the station’s programming date back almost 100 years, and they’re now being digitized. We speak with an archivist and a radio historian about how the programs were preserved and how people can listen to them.
