Duluth Mayoral Candidates Face Off

Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, left, and former state Sen. Roger Reinert. Courtesy of the candidates.

Duluth is the largest city in our listening area, which covers most of northwest Wisconsin and northeast Minnesota. So even if you live a hundred miles away, what happens in Duluth affects you, from the bridges and roads you drive on to the businesses powering the regional economy.

The city’s most heated mayoral race in years will culminate on Nov. 7. Incumbent Mayor Emily Larson is seeking a third term, challenged by Roger Reinert, a former city councilor who also served in both the Minnesota House and Senate. The two square off in interviews moderated by “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington, joined by Business North Editor and Publisher Ron Brochu, and Bob Boone, editor and publisher of the Duluth Reader.

Their wide-ranging questions probe the candidates’ stances on housing affordability, the tourism economy and policing, among other subjects. Pre-recorded this week, the program will air at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, with the full transcript upcoming in the Reader and Business North.
