Today on “Simply Superior,” we feature an exclusive report by WPR News reporter Danielle Kaeding, as documents obtained from federal regulators show that officials at the Superior refinery knew for years about issues with equipment believed to be responsible for the massive explosion at the company’s Superior oil refinery in 2018. For her report, Kaeding reviewed nearly 1,300 pages of documents from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. She also speaks with individuals connected to the incident and subsequent investigation in a special extended report for “Simply Superior.”

Also, it’s Homegrown Music Festival week – the region’s biggest concert event with dozens of bands playing at Twin Ports venues continuing through the weekend. “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington speaks with Homegrown Executive Director, Melissa Ginger, who shares musical selections from the annual event that started out as an ambitious birthday party in 1998.

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that officials at Husky Energy knew for years about issues with equipment believed to be responsible for the explosion. This post was updated on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 10:07 a.m. to show that Superior refinery officials knew for years about equipment issues.
