More Cameras to Watch State Fair-goers

More security cameras will be operating at Wisconsin State Fair Park later this week, when the annual fair gets underway.

Last year on the opening night of the fair, rampaging youths caused fights and injuries and about 30 people were arrested. Things calmed down after the fair took some additional security measures, including requiring anyone under 18 to have an adult guardian with them, when entering the fair after 5 pm. that guardian requirement is in place this year, too. And State Fair CEO Rick Frenette says the fair has spent about $30,000 on additional cameras and other technical updates.

Frenette also says all four law enforcement agencies working the fair– Milwaukee and West Allis police, the State Patrol and State Fair park police will be constantly communicating with each other during the fair’s eleven day run. Less frequent coordination may have slowed law enforcement’s response to last year’s violence.
