Wisconsin’s Ethics Commission has hired a new full-time administrator to run the agency after the original administrator was fired by Republican state senators.
The Ethics Commission voted unanimously to appoint Daniel Carlton to lead the agency. Carlton previously worked for the Florida Senate Committee on Ethics and Elections as well as the Florida Commission on Ethics.
The administrator job opened up after Republican state senators voted to reject the confirmation of former administrator Brian Bell. Republicans cited Bell’s previous work for the now-defunct Government Accountability Board, which was involved in an investigation of Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign and other conservatives.

Carlton, the new administrator, will serve in an interim role for the time being. He still needs to be confirmed by the Senate.
