Critics continue to pelt Gov. Scott Walker’s suggestion that Wisconsin should consider ending same-day voter registration. There are new concerns from African-Americans and a former Walker political rival.
A coalition, including the League of Women Voters, the AFL-CIO, an African American civic group, Citizen Action, local election officials and Democratic politicians teed off on Walker recently telling a California audience that it may be time to end same day voter registration. About 50,000 voters in Milwaukee registered on Election Day last month, and polling place inspector Kathy Walker says it was not a hardship on the city’s poll workers.
In Madison Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Walker insisted he won’t get behind a voter registration bill, but he’s also not promising a veto.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has a problem with Gov. Walker not promising a veto.
Barrett noted he lost two elections to Walker, but didn’t try to change the rules after his defeats. He says Republicans are mad that President Obama and Tammy Baldwin carried the state.
