Obama Leads in Latest Marquette Law Poll

President Barack Obama heads to Wisconsin Thursday, with new polls in his favor.

A poll from Marquette University shows the President leading Republican challenger Mitt Romney 51 percent to 43 percent, among likely voters in Wisconsin. The poll was conducted last Thursday through Sunday, after the final presidential debates. The President’s lead is larger than in a Marquette poll two weeks ago. Pollster Charles Franklin says more independent voters seem to be back in the Democrat’s camp.

However, Franklin notes the new poll shows among people who say they follow politics closely the President is only two points ahead of Romney. Franklin says the Democrats need to mobilize casual voters, as well, “Should turnout fall off, then we end up with a much tighter race”

The President will make his case during a speech in Green Bay Thursday, and again on Saturday in Milwaukee, and Monday in Madison.Mitt Romney will speak at a rally Friday in West Allis. The margin of error in the new Marquette poll is about three percent. a poll this week from Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling also shows President Obama leadingformer Gov. Romney.
