U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, said it won’t make a difference for the state if Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Janesville, became speaker of the House of Representatives.
The speakership is a high-profile job, but Moore contends the position is more about being a national leader and not about steering money to the speaker’s home state. Moore said if Ryan would become speaker, the state would neither be helped or hurt because of battles within the GOP.
“The thing that’s hurting Wisconsin more than anything is the lack of governing, the lack of compromise by the House of Representatives, no matter who the speaker is. Until they resolve those internal affairs, we’re going to have chaos,” said Moore.

Some in the Republican Party see Ryan as being able to unite Republican conservatives and moderates, but Moore said others argue Ryan isn’t conservative enough. She said she’s concerned about Ryan as a person as he deliberates whether to try to become House speaker.
