A newly announced candidate for Congress is responding to a Republican gibe that focuses on his past work for disgraced former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner.
Democrat Kirk Bangstad is trying to unseat GOP incumbent Rep. Sean Duffy in Wisconsin’s 7th District. Bangstad is a management consultant, an opera singer and the owner of a fitness studio in Minocqua. But it was his work as policy director for Anthony Weiner’s mayoral race that was highlighted on the National Republican Congressional Committee website, which asked, “Will the scandal plagued former Congressman be stumping for Bangstad?”

“The work I did was work I really believed in and work I’m proud of. And as soon as the news came out about Anthony Weiner and the things that he had done, I was the second person to leave the campaign, after the campaign manager.”
Bangstad said his campaign will focus on Duffy’s policies, which he said threaten social security and Medicare.
