Two men police believe to be Venezuelan gang members have been charged with trying to steal money from an ATM in Superior.

Genfraiyer Jossue Rodriguez-Mendoza and Jhocer Alexander Colina-Moncerrat are facing a felony charge of attempting to interfere with an ATM. If convicted, the two may face up to three years in prison, up to a $5,000 fine or both.

According to a criminal complaint, Duluth police say the two men are suspected to be part of a Venezuelan gang that specializes in jackpotting ATMs. The process involves installing a device onto the machine that results in the ATM dispensing all of its cash.

The men are accused of trying to rob an ATM at a credit union in Superior on May 11. The two were wearing masks and driving a white Dodge sedan. The suspects triggered an alarm and fled without taking any money.

Police were able to locate the vehicle from surveillance photos and later apprehended the men at a gas station in Superior. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials later confirmed the identities of both men.
