Just weeks after retiring from the Green Bay Packers, Mark Murphy is returning to sports in northeast Wisconsin.
The former Packers president and CEO has joined the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Athletics program as its inaugural “Executive in Residence.”
Murphy, who retired from the Packers in July, will have an office in the Kress Events Center on the UW-Green Bay campus, effective immediately.

“We are honored to have Mark Murphy join UW-Green Bay as an Executive in Residence,” Chancellor Mike Alexander said in a statement. “His passion for this region, belief in the importance of education, his experience as a D1 Athletic Director, and his incredible qualities as a leader will continue to inspire us.”
Murphy, 70, will primarily focus on elevating the profile and strength of Phoenix Athletics’ D1 programs and building partnerships in the region with individuals and businesses.
He will also assist the school with capital improvement projects, sports sponsorships and mentoring coaches and staff.
In a statement, Murphy said he has “tremendous respect” for Alexander and the UW-Green Bay Athletics program.
“I’m also excited to go back to my roots in college athletics at a school that means so much to the local community,” Murphy said.
Before joining the Packers in 2007, Murphy served as the director of athletics at Colgate University from 1992-2003 and Northwestern University from 2003-07.
