In Cue – “Sounds of the South Pacific Islands”

By
Album Cover, South Pacific Islands, Putumayo Records, 2004

Listening to this CD compilation reminded me of the unparalleled innate beauty, multiple cultures, and music the islands of the South Pacific have long represented. Beyond their international reputation as earthly islands of paradise captured by the paintings of Gauguin, or their local maps suitable for framing, comes a grouping of various musical expressions calling for local practitioners to help save those very old sounds from the entrapment of modernity. This CD is a kind reminder of why.
