42-Year-Old Suspect Killed After Allegedly Brandishing Knife

Wausau law enforcement officials have now released the names of an officer and a deceased suspect from a police-involved shooting this past weekend.

A news release from the Wausau Police Department identifies James Martin as the officer who fired the fatal shots during a domestic abuse investigation. The slain suspect is identified as 42-year-old Oswald Mattner.

Police Chief Jeff Hardel said Mattner was armed with a knife when police tried to take him into custody. Three other officers were in the area and came to the scene following the report of the shooting.

Martin has been placed on administrative leave.
