The Sikh community in Wisconsin is responding to Sunday’s (8/5) shootings with sadness, tributes and a wish for education.
A half-dozen worshippers died when gunman Wade Michael Page invaded a Sikh temple in Oak Creek.
Amardeep Kaleka is the son of the late Satwan Singh Kaleka, who was president of the Oak Creek temple. Amardeep says his father worked hard for many years in Milwaukee and was beaten during a robbery. But Amardeep says his dad loved the U.S., even flying a large American flag that embarrassed his sons.

National Sikh leaders have arrived in Wisconsin and say they here to help the local worshippers. Amardeep Singh of the Sikh coalition says if Sunday’s shootings were based on race and religion, then the U.S. needs to learn more about Sikhs.
The Milwaukee area Sikh community plans a meeting and vigil Tuesday (8/7) night at a temple in Brookfield.
