In a criminal complaint filed Wednesday, police said they also found a grinder in Brunner’s vehicle containing a substance that tested positive for THC. A police officer at the scene said she had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and appeared to have trouble keeping her balance.
According to the criminal complaint, Brunner was on North 27th Street in Milwaukee at about 5 p.m. when she attempted to turn left on St. Paul Avenue when the traffic signal turned yellow. Her vehicle collided in the intersection with an oncoming Jeep Grand Cherokee.
There were six Marquette students in the Jeep, all members of the university’s lacrosse team. Two of the passengers — Scott Michaud, 19, and Noah Snyder, 20 — were killed. The four other students were injured.
The complaint says the Jeep was traveling 53 mph. The street had a 30 mph posted speed limit.
Brunner has a previous OWI conviction from 2003. That previous charge adds an enhanced penalty to the homicide charge if convicted. She faces up to 40 years in prison for each of the two counts.
According to court records, Brunner was scheduled to make her initial court appearance today. She is being held on $150,000 bond according to jail records.
