The family of a Milwaukee man shot to death by a police officer five months ago is still waiting for release of a report compiled by the state Justice Department.
Family and supporters of Dontre Hamilton again marched through Milwaukee streets Tuesday evening, though with less disruption of car traffic than during previous marches. The protestors called on Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm to issue criminal charges against the Milwaukee police officer who shot Hamilton 14 times on April 30 after a struggle in a downtown park.
Jonathan Safran, one of the attorneys representing Hamilton’s family, said Chisholm should announce a decision.

“I appreciate the fact that he is having an outside group look at it from a use-of-force standpoint, but I still feel it should have been done much sooner,” said Safran.
Milwaukee Alderwoman Milele Coggs has joined Safran in asking for a copy of the state Justice Department report on the Hamilton shooting. Safran, however, said it appears that report can’t be released until Chisholm decides on any charges.
Chisholm recently met with the Hamilton family.
