Members of Gov. Scott Walker’s staff plan to meet this week with veterans concerned about the state’s change in a block grant program used by local offices where veterans can get help with benefits.
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs has put more restrictions on funds that are available to county veterans service officers, some counties say the changes affect their ability to serve veterans.
State Veteran Affairs Secretary John Scocos said the meeting should sort things out.

“It was the first time in 30 years that we looked at this whole process. So, there’s going to be changes and as anything changes, everybody has their idea on how they should change it,” he said. “But we’re dedicated as an agency and the governor has given us direction, we’re going to do what’s right for our veterans.”
