The Black River is experiencing moderate flooding after a warm weekend and Monday’s steady rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a moderate flood warning for the Black River in Black River Falls. The river is expected to crest at 54 feet Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning.
The snow melt and Monday’s inch of rain are sending a surge through area waterways, said Tom Stangland, a hydrometeorological technician with the NWS in La Crosse.

“We’ve got flood warnings for the Black River in Black River Falls down through Galesville right now,” Stangland said of the river that winds southwest.
Jackson County Emergency Management Coordinator Kristina Page said one low-lying road is underwater and a county highway may have to be closed, but no homes are in danger.
“The flooding isn’t unusual. What’s unusual is the timing on it,” Page said.
Page warns drivers not to attempt to cross flooded roadways. She said roadways could be washed out. Four people died due to flooding related incidents in Wisconsin last year.
The NWS is reporting minor flooding along the Yellow River near Pittsville and Babcock, and the Big Rib River at Rib Falls. Additional rain or snow isn’t expected until this weekend.
