Former Walker Aide Wink Sentenced

Former Scott Walker aide Darlene Wink has been put on probation and fined, in connection to the ongoing John Doe probe in Milwaukee County.Wink was a Milwaukee County employee while Scott Walker was County Executive. Early last year, Wink plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of working on fundraisers for Walker while on county time.Since then, she’s been cooperating withprosecutors on two other John Doe cases.But at Wink’s sentencing hearing, Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf argued Wink still should be put on probation, saying misdeeds such as Wink’s give political officeholders an unfair advantage in elections.

“And that is the crime here, it’s not that Ms. Wink was doing quote-unquote personal work at her desk.”

Wink tearfully apologized for her actions.

“I realize that what i did was wrong and I apologize for my poor judgment,” she said.

Wink even apologized to Governor Walker.

Circuit Judge Daniel Konkol could have sent Wink to jail, but instead put her on probation for a year and fined her more than $1000.Konkol says Wink made mistakes.

“Those mistakes were criminal and she was aware they were criminal,” he said.

Konkol also banned wink from working on politics while on probation, except to vote. Another sentencing tied to the Doe investigation, for former Walker aide Tim Russell, is scheduled for later this month.
