University of Wisconsin Colleges and UW-Extension are participating in a national pilot program to redesign the traditional college transcript.

The Comprehensive Student Record Project is a pilot program involving eight universities, community colleges and historically black colleges. Chancellor Cathy Sandeen, of UW Colleges and Extension, said the group will be working to design a new transcript model that will give employers a better understanding of the specific knowledge and skills that a student gained in their program.

“What it’s meant to do is provide an even richer and deeper look at what a student has learned and what a student has mastered and what a student can do,” she said.

Sandeen said the new transcript will still include a student’s college courses and grades, but could also have information about research activities, internships and other learning experiences.
