The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents named business school professor Mark Mone as the UW-Milwaukee’s next chancellor on Monday.
Mone has been interim chancellor at the school since Michael Lovell left to head Marquette University eight months ago. The professor of management in the Lubar School of Business has been at UW-M for 25 years, and most recently worked in a cabinet-level appointment on strategic planning.
The regents chose Mone after considering three Midwestern finalists.

Speaking at a campus press conference, UW System President Ray Cross said Mone understands UW-M’s role in developing talent needed to move Wisconsin forward.
“I’m confident that he has the vision, the talent and experience to guide UW-Milwaukee as it enters a new era,” said Cross.
Mone said he wants to elevate the university’s visibility, brand and image.
“Every day we think about the impact of individual researchers,” he said. “We think about our schools, our colleges, our departments. They’re nationally and internationally ranked. But as a whole, UW-M as an institution can make great strides in pulling those areas together and working hard, really hard on the collective image of UW-M.”
Mone said he’ll focus on growing enrollment now that it has stabilized, as well as philanthropy and community partnerships that further research and student success.
