Walker Predicts Wisconsin Won’t Allow Sports Betting

US Supreme Court Ruling Monday Gives OK For States To Allow The Betting

Gov. Scott Walker says he doesn’t foresee sports gambling being allowed in Wisconsin.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday in favor of states allowing betting on sports.

But Walker told reporters Monday in Milwaukee that the Wisconsin Constitution doesn’t allow such gambling here.

“Well, it’s in the constitution. It doesn’t matter what I think on that. It’s in the constitution. We pointed that out before. That’s not going to change. It would take a change of (the constitution by) the voters, ” Walker said.

Wisconsin does have gaming compacts with Native American tribes, and it’s possible the tribes could offer sports betting if they work out a new deal with the state. But Walker has opposed expansion of gambling.
