The idea of the state borrowing funds to help build a new pro basketball arena in Milwaukee doesn’t sit well with most respondents to a new poll.

Gov. Scott Walker wants the state to borrow $220 million, while state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald recommends borrowing $150 million through the state lands board.

A new poll by Marquette University shows even that lower figure gets just 29 percent support in the Milwaukee media market and just 9 percent in the rest of the state. Marquette pollster Charles Franklin said “good luck” to the elected officials who want to get the arena built through borrowing.
