Sen. Tammy Baldwin has relaunched an effort to help the brewing industry.

The Wisconsin Democrat has helped reintroduce the Fair Beer Act. She said the measure would reduce the federal excise tax paid by brewers.

“When I talk to leaders in that industry, they say, ‘If we get relief from this excise tax, we would invest in equipment and invest in people,’” Baldwin said.

Baldwin said small and medium-sized breweries would especially like to expand, but as NPR recently reported, there’s another bill in Congress, the Small Brew Act, targeting excise tax relief just to small brewers.

There’s also a suggestion that any beer tax relief would have to part of a broader tax reform package.
