    Wages in the United States have been more or less stagnant for the last four decades. According to a report from the Brookings Institution, wages only grew 10 percent between 1973 and 2017, when you adjust for inflation. Economists have long looked at variables in the labor market, such as unions or automation, as affecting these wages. But a new theory from a group of labor economists says that the issue could have less to do with workers and more to do with fewer businesses in the market. We talk to Ioana Marinescu, Economist and an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice, about the research.
