Most of the highways damaged by floods in southwest Wisconsin are open again in time for holiday travelers.
State Highways 60, 61, 35 and 171 were clobbered by heavy rains in June. Officials say most of the trouble spots are fixed enough to allow traffic. Even the heavily-damaged north entry into Boscobel on Highway 61 will open temporarily over the weekend.
Dave Lambert, highway commissioner for Grant County, says his crew worked for a week and a half to fix more than 100 miles of state, county, and local roads.

“There may be areas with barrels and barricades to indicate some hazards,” says Lambert. “But you can get through.”
A 15-mile stretch of Highway 35 from Lynxville to Prairie Du Chien will remain closed for the next few weeks for repairs. A portion of the road was washed out, along with some railroad tracks.
