Nine tall-masted ships are moored along the Fox River in downtown Green Bay, as part of a weekend festival.
The tall ships are reproductions of 18th- and 19th-Century sailing vessels. Their masts can reach a few stories high – hence the festival’s name, “Tall Ships.” They also have old-fashioned sails and riggings.
The ships are part of what will draw an estimated 60,000 people to the festival, which runs through Sunday.

Five ships will be available to tour and some crews will present seminars on what life was like on one of the wooden ships.
A replica of Wisconsin’s flagship, the Denis Sullivan, is among the fleet. Other ships of interest include the Unicorn, which features an all-female crew, along with examples of schooners that sailed the waters of the Great Lakes and New England.
